Since 2015, BPI Foundation’s BPI Sinag provides an annual capacity-building and awards program for social entrepreneurs who are ready to scale up and expand, while deepening their impact in community development.
Social enterprises may be considered as the natural and true manifestation of the Filipino “bayanihan” spirit, which is highly relatable to the general Filipino public. However, there is a glaring mixed understanding on what social enterprises are from the general public, from practicing social entrepreneurs, and even from social enterprise intervenors. Despite the mixed perception of what social enterprises technically are, many are aware of the potential development outcomes that social enterprises can deliver, especially considering the possibility of contributing heavily to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Seeing the importance of a multi-sectoral and nationwide approach in truly realizing their target outcomes for the sector, BPI Foundation – together with different key stakeholders – crafted a five-year development roadmap on how to advance social entrepreneurship in the country.
With the help and guidance of Bayan Innovation Group (BIG), the National Social Enterprise Development Roadmap is currently under development. Once completed, this roadmap shall function as a guide for the local social enterprise community, which will provide a common understanding of Filipino social enterprises; and to unify the ecosystem of stakeholders in the pursuit of growing the scope, size, and socio-environmental impact of the social enterprise sector.
